Stability Operations and State Building: Continuities and Contingencies

Nation building as a function of military formations has been the subject of intense debate (both within the military and without) since the events in Mogadishu in late 1993. This book will do nothing to convince disbelievers: rather, it is designed as a guideline for leaders and policymakers who understand that, right or wrong, the armed forces are going to be forced to carry much of the burden of stabilizing the world’s weak states.
